These trees brighten your yard in the early spring. When the tulips, crocus and lilies are showing off so are these flowering trees. Crabapples, Redbuds and Pears all produce flowers in March, April and May. Through the year, then they have small (non edible) apples that form on the branches, leaving color on the trees all the way through the end of the year. These are great trees for the birds to visit and even build nests as the branches are closely placed and the ripe 'apples' are there for them to snack on as well.
